Athlete’s of the Week play key roles in Teams drive to State
(UNDATED) – KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK WERE KEY FIGURES IN ADVANCING THEIR TEAMS ON TO STATE TOURNAMENT’S, EACH YOU MIGHT SAY, IN THEIR OWN SPECIAL WAY.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS GO TO HEART BUTTE SOPHOMORE RILEY SPOONHUNTER WHOSE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTION WAS 35 POINTS AND 11 REBOUNDS IN THE SEMIFINAL GAME OF THE NORTHERN C DIVISIONAL AGAINST CHINOOK, A TEAM WITH JUST ONE LOSS. HEART BUTTE CAME AWAY WITH THE VICTORY AND RILEY SPOONHUNTER ONCE AGAIN PRODUCED A DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY OVER SUNBURST. 11 OF HIS 26 POINTS CAME IN THE 4TH QTR WHEN THE GAME WAS ON THE LINE. HE WENT 8-10 FROM THE FREE THROW LINE, INCLUDING 5 OF HIS LAST 5. SPOONHUNTER RECORDED ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 10-PLUS REBOUNDS.
HEART BUTTE COACH KELLEN HALL SAYS ONE OF SPOONHUNTER’S MOST OUTSTANDING QUALITIES IS HIS “WORK ETHIC.” IN THE COACHES WORDS, “THERE’S NEVER A DAY WHEN I HAVE TO LIGHT HIS FIRE, HIS DRIVE AND DETERMINATION ARE ABOVE AND BEYOND.” HALL NOTED THAT THERE’S A LOT OF PLAYERS WITH TALENT BUT WHAT IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO IS THAT MENTAL ASPECT..
OUR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WAS A KEY FIGURE IN LEADING THE BROWNING LADY INDIANS TO A BERTH IN THE STATE “A” TOURNAMENT IN GREAT FALLS NEXT WEEKEND. SHE WASN’T BROWNING’S LEADING SCORER IN ANY OF THE DIVISIONAL GAMES, BUT IF YOU WANT TO TALK “CONSISTENCY,” THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, THE DISTRICT AND THE DIVISIONAL TOURNAMENTS, SR. RONNAL JORDAN IS THE ONE. SHE DID HAVE A 20-POINT GAME IN THEDISTRICT SEMIFINALS AND SHE IS BROWNING’S LEADING SCORER ON THE AVERAGE WITH OVER 12 POINTS A GAME….”CONSISTENCY.”
BROWNING HEAD COACH RAY AUGARE SAYS SHE’S ALSO OUR LEADING REBOUNDER AND SHE’S JUST THERE AND YOU CAN COUNT ON IT NIGHT AFTER NIGHT.
ALSO NOMINATED THIS WEEK, AND IT WAS A DIFFICULT CHOICE, AARON WHITE AND T.J. REYNOLDS, WERE BOTH OUTSTANDING IN THE NORTHERN “B” DIVISIONAL. THE NOMINATOR SUGGESTED WE MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER A CO-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AS REYNOLDS AND WHITE HAVE BECOME THE PREMIER, “INSIDE/OUTSIDE DUOS IN THE STATE.”
SHELBY WINS THE NORTHERN “B” CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW. WHITE HAD 29 IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AND HIT 12-13 FROM THE FREE THROW LINE. REYNOLDS HAD 25 POINTS, 17 REBOUNDS, 5 ASSISTS AND 5 BLOCKED SHOTS IN THE OPENER AGAINST WOLF POINT.
