Being the Puffman isn't easy and being the Puffman means that I usually have an opinion or two about anything and everything. Today I will share my opinion but I would like to ask all you, the Puffman blog readers, your opinion. I think that the majority of us enjoy coffee. Coffee has to be the universal drink. One can't get too carried away reading the various medical findings/reports. One day it's bad for you and probably going to lead to an early demise. But wait a day or two and the next thing you read is that it is good for you and will probably extend your life if you drink enough of it.

Dixie Inn

I've enjoyed coffee all over North Central Montana and I think "THE BEST CUP OF COFFEE" in Shelby has to be at Darrell Keck's Dixie Inn.  Perhaps I feel that way is because coffee is a lot like Darrell. It wakes you up, calms your nerves, keeps you warm in the winter, causes you to sweat in the summer, and won't end up costing you too much money.  It is bold, strong, and cheap. Darrell has the same effect as a cup or two of coffee or a much of the time...more like 20 cups of coffee on an empty stomach!  The coffee at the Dixie Inn is good at lunch, great in the afternoons, and a lively addition to any Dixie Inn dinner. Darrell may be famous for his steaks and easy going laid back Montana western tradition but next time you go to the Dixie, check out their "joe". You won't be disappointed!  In the meantime,  As for the top five best places for a great cup of coffee I would hasten to add.

The Prairie Peddler in uptown Shelby.  The Peddler is a great place to grab a cup of regular coffee, but they have all the flavored coffee you could want too.  While you're there, you can grab a gift for the Puffman's birthday, or some other upcoming special occasion.

Ringside Ribs out on the west end of Shelby.  This is a great place for a good cup of coffee in Shelby.  Ribs are their specialty and are worth the stop!

The Home Cafe

The Home Cafe in beautiful sunny downtown Conrad has been in business since 1958 and is a family owned and operated cafe. The decor is an antique style which is interesting to see and appreciate. Their motto is 'the homemade way'. Fresh cinnamon rolls and donuts daily are a great side to that cup of coffee. Homemade soup and fresh pies are a daily item.

Highway 2 Cafe Cut Bank

The Highway Two Cafe in Cut Bank, is right along Main Street (you know, Highway 2). While you're there you might want to try their famous huckleberry pancakes, they're a real treat.

I'd like to hear from you. Who do you think has the best cup of coffee around these parts? Now, if you drink de-caf, I'd rather not hear from you. De-caf is NOT coffee in my opinion. In other words, if you can't play with the big dogs (real coffee drinkers), stay on the porch!
