For the second week in a row, both our Male and Female Athlete of the Week are from the CJI Hawks. That shouldn't be too surprising since they are the only Football Team still playing and in Volleyball, one of three local teams to make it to the State Tournament and the only one to win a match there. We start with Football and the star-studded Hawks who have had so many of their team members step-up and make huge plays. Certainly, one of them is one of their two Seniors, Cooper Streit who Head Coach Jim Vinson says is not only but a "great leader for the team but an outstanding student in the classroom and always willing to help with anything that has to do with the kids in our school. Cooper is our Athlete of the Week after scoring 4 Touchdowns in the Semi-final with Lincoln.  He carried the ball 11 times for 94 yards and had 6 big catches for 161 yards....a total of 254 yards of offense.   He is also a hard-hitting tackler on defense and had 14 tackles on defense and an interception.   Cap that off with 2 extra point receptions. Cooper was also very complimentary of the team from Lincoln and their sportsmanship and ability.  While very happy with the win, he says the story has not ended yet. K96 FM will be there Sat. in Grass Range for the Title game.
CJI Head Volleyball Coach Jordan Miller said Our Female Athlete is "a great little athlete, works incredibly hard, pushes herself to be the best and is a big reason we made it to the State Tournament. It was the second nomination this year for So. Scarlett Sundgren.  Scarlett is not real big, but she gets her share of kills at the net and really seems to excel in the server's box   In the District Tournament in 3 matches she served 24 aces, had 54 digs and 7 kills. In the State Tournament she had 122 digs in three matches with 9 aces and in the Hawks win over Manhattan Christian, Scarlett served up all 15 points in the 5th and final game. We also had a strong nomination this week for Choteau's Jr. Middle Hitter, Claire Long.  Claire played exceptionally well in the State Tournament and in the previous week in the Divisional Tournament, she had 55 kills and 12 blocks in The Bulldogs Championship run.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Cooper Streit and So. Scarlett Sundgren both from the Chester/Joplin/Inverness Hawks.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank.
