KSEN/K96 Athlete of the Week
Our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week has had a lot of performances that can be considered "outstanding" and last week's effort was one of them.
Just a sophomore a year ago, running back Levi Nelson was a key part of the Hawks run to the 6-man State Championship. In week two as a junior, it was more of the same. In a 33-30 win over Jordan, Nelson opened the game with a statement, breaking loose on a 74-yard Touchdown run. That was the first of three scores, but even more impressive the workhorse effort in between the Touchdowns. Levi got his number called 27 times and rushed for 260 yards. There was no slacking off on defense as he led the Hawks with 15 tackles. Levi also kicks extra points for CJI. Head Coach Jim Vinson noted that Jordan is a very quality opponent who he expects "to make a deep run into the playoffs."
We also had a quality nomination for Cut Bank's Sr. offensive lineman and middle Linebacker, Ray Dagel, after the Wolves 32-14 win over Deer Lodge. He helps anchor that defense and is a true leader on the team. A running back a year ago, Coach Schilling asked he and Tyler Raines to move to the offensive line where they needed some athleticism. Both players responded with whatever the team needs. It was also interesting to note that Dagel recovered an onside kick, that he called. Coach Schilling said he came to me during the game and said if we do this, i know I can cover it. They did and he did and it was Raines that kicked it.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week, CJI Jr. Levi Nelson. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank.
