Disney Announces Release Dates For Two More Animated Movies
With 'Big Hero 6' topping the weekend box-office chart—even beating Christopher Nolan's much anticipated (but scientifically inaccurate) 'Interstellar'—Disney once again reigns supreme in Hollywood. Truly, they are no Mickey Mouse operation (except, y'know, the whole creating and owning Mickey Mouse part).
Disney's upcoming roster of animated pictures already includes projects like Pixar's long-awaited 'The Good Dinosaur,' 'Inside Out,' and 'Finding Dory.' Now, per Variety, the company has officially dated two more projects from its Walt Disney Animation Studios. 'Zootopia' will hit theaters on March 4, 2016, while 'Moana' opens on November 23, 2016.
And just what, exactly, are these projects? Here's Disney's official synopsis for Moana:
In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.
Variety describes 'Zootopia' as the story of "a fox who lives in an animal city and is framed for a crime he didn't commit." So it's the animated portions of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' meets, um, no that's pretty much just the animated portions of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit.' But the concept art for 'Moana' (see above) looks absolutely beautiful, and with 'Frozen' and now 'Big Hero 6,' Walt Disney Animation Studios is riding a bit of a hot streak. If a few of these upcoming titles hit as well, we could be on the verge of a full-blown Disney Renaissance 2.0.
