Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) officials say Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause diarrheal illness if eaten. Most people infected with Salmonella experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Symptoms usually start six hours to six days after swallowing the bacteria, and most people recover without treatment in four to seven days.
Children younger than age five, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems are at risk for more severe illness that could require medical treatment or hospitalization. If you believe you have an illness due to Salmonella, please contact your healthcare provider.
Consumers who have the recalled product should dispose of it. Contact Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 or visit http://www.quakergranolarecall.com for additional information or product reimbursement.
To date, there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the recalled products in Montana or elsewhere in the United States.
