The very thing that made the trek for Lewis and Clark so incredibly difficult is also what put the city of Great Falls on the map.

You may not realize it, but thousands of people visit our community each year to see the four visible waterfalls.

The first and largest waterfall that our town is named after is also home to another hidden gem, scheduled to open in May.

Ryan Island Park

One of the best ways to take in the breathtaking views of the Great Falls and Ryan Dam is by hiking out on Ryan Island Park.

If you're looking for an epic picnic spot or just a place to unwind, Ryan Island Park is the ticket!

This park is smack dab in the middle of the Missouri River at the base of the Great Falls.

One of the best parts about accessing the island is the incredibly cool suspension bridge that you have to cross.

  • This popular recreation spot, just outside Great Falls, will open on Mother's Day, May 11th, and remain open through Labor Day.
  • The island is accessible from daylight to dark seven days a week.
  • If you would like to use any of the facilities at Ryan Dam, or the club house, reservations are required.
  • Both the clubhouse and the picnic area are handicapped accessible!
  • If you do make it to Ryan Dam, it's worth driving a little further to Moroney Dam and checking out the views in that area as well.
