LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

(UNDATED) – A game winning run for our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy male Athlete of the Week and just good old-fashioned consistency for our female Athlete of the Week.

The Valier Panthers haven’t seen the post-season playoffs in 4 years and so as you can imagine they are excited to be back.  Our Athlete of the Week played a big part in making that possible.  Jr. receiver and defensive end Joe Ramos had two TD receptions of 18 & 50 yards and a pass interception in a key conference game against Sunburst Sat. night and that was just the 1st half.

Sunburst had chipped away at a 19-8 deficit and took the lead late in the game 24-19.  Valier Coach John Briggs said what happened late in the game was an example of playing every play until the whistle blows and that’s what happened when the Refiners somehow coughed up the football, late in the play and Ramos stayed involved, picked up the loose ball and scrambled 70 yards for the game winning score, 25-24.

Coach Briggs said Ramos is an outstanding receiver and he “really was all over the place on defense making tackles from the defensive end position.”

Our female Athlete of the Week has been a consistent player all season long and continued that trend in two conference wins for Shelby against Cut Bank and Conrad last week.  Sr. Emma Taylor carries a high average on serve/receives for the Coyotes, a statistic that is highly valued by coaches who know you need it to get the play set up going back across the net.

Coyotes Head Coach Lexy Fisher says Taylor does a “great job reading hitters and works hard to get to the right spot on the floor on defense.”   Another talent that doesn’t show up in the stat book is communication and the Coach says Emma is an excellent communicator on the floor.

We also had a nomination this week for Shelby Sr. Vivi McDermott who recorded more than 50 assists in the two matches, among other solid achievements.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Jr. Joe Ramos of the Valier Panthers and Sr. Emma Taylor of the Shelby Coyotes.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank.  McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
