KSEN-Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week
(UNDATED) – KSEN / K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week played big roles in helping their teams pull out an upset victory or almost an upset victory.
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Fairfield Sr. Shaylee Grigsby, a 5-10 middle hitter. Fairfield’s 1st year Head Coach Mary Mathison says she’s “a great teammate and leader,” and in the Eagles 2nd matchup of the year with Shelby, she also showed she was capable of putting up some big numbers.
The 2nd place Coyotes in the 1B had taken Fairfield down in 3 straight in their 1st matchup in late Septembe, but when the two met last week Grigsby was on target and led the Eagles to victory 3-1. Her numbers were impressive with 13 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces in the 4 games which were all tight but our Athlete of the Week obviously made a difference.
Our male Athlete of the week was described by his Coach as a “hard nosed, old school kid.” Cut Bank Head Football Coach Dylan Johnston says his Sr. running back and middlelinebacker, Austin Vanek has especially been a great tackler on defense.
In Cut Bank’s near upset of #1 Fairfield last Fri. night, Vanek ran the ball 18 times for 90 yards, but his real impact was on defense where he recorded 10-solo tackles, 2 assists and one tackle for a loss. He is averaging 15 tackles per game for the Wolves whose defense has kept them in the game and given them a chance for victory this year.
Congratulations to our KSEN /K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Sr. Shaylee Grigsby of the Fairfield Eagles and Sr. Austin Vanek of the Cut Bank Wolves. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
We encourage coaches, parents, fans or teammates to nominate Athlete’s of the Week if you believe they have had an above avg. performance. markdaniels@townsquaremedia.com
