KSEN/K96 Athlete of the Week
KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week had a heckuva weekend and are having a heckuva year!
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Cut Bank Sr. Wrestler Alex Wahl, whose only losses this season came against top ranked AA Wrestlers and one in Glasgow. Otherwise, it's win, win, win.... individual matches and Tournament Championships. Wahl just completed a Championship at 165 lbs., at the Choteau Classic with three pins and an 8-1 decision in the Championship match. He won the Cut Bank Invitational the week before, for the 4th time in his H.S. career. Cut Bank Head Coach Cody Fetters says Wahl's technical knowledge and work ethic are big reasons for his success. Fetters noted that Alex could have won the Choteau Tournament 4 years in a row but was prevented from participating due to Covid-19. We had numerous nominations for Male Athletes of the Week including Nate Nelson who had a career high 20 points against Chinook. Also, Greg Coy from Cut Bank who had a 26-point night and 18 rebounds against Rocky Boy. And 4 Choteau wrestlers who all won Championships by pin to give Choteau the Championship in their own Tournament for the 1st time in 10-years. Those four.... Tate Crabb, Asher Clayton, Jesse Gebhart and Nate Gunderson.
Our Female Athlete of the Week was also a tough call, but the nod goes to CJI So. Brynn Kammerzell who had one of her biggest nights of the year in a drama-filled victory over Chinook. Both teams came into the contest with 7-1 records and when it came down to the final seconds with the Hawks down one, Kammerzell got the ball just inside the free throw line and put it thru for the one-point lead. She also drew a foul and sealed the win by 2 points. The talented Sophomore had 24 points on 9-14 from the field and 7 rebounds. She came back with 14 points and 9 rebounds in a loss to NorthStar on Saturday. We also had a nomination for Conrad So. Wrestler Lucy Armstrong, a champion in Choteau at 135-lbs. Conrad Coach Luke Schlosser said she beat a really tough wrestler from Fort Benton to win that Championship.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Alex Wahl of Cut Bank, and So. Brynn Kammerzell of CJI.
