KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
Local Athlete's gave us tough decisions to make for the KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week awards. Track & Field Athlete's especially are still out there winning multiple events and breaking records, with more to come.
Our Female Athlete of the Week has never won this award but has been nominated several times in Basketball. Cut Bank Jr. Jaycee Luse, had a big day last week at the 1B District Track meet where she led her Cut Bank team to a 3rd place finish overall. First off, she turned in her personal best with a jump of 15'8" to win the Long Jump. She also had a win in the 300m hurdles and a 3rd place finish in the triple jump where she only missed second by an inch and 1st by 3-inches. She was also part of the Cut Bank 1600 relay team that finished 2nd and the 400-relay team that finished 3rd. Jaycee has been a state qualifier in track and field 3 seasons in a row.
We also gave strong consideration to Regan Torgerson again as she won all three sprint events at the district meet. Also, CJI Sr. Jayla Ramberg, who won just one event, but it was huge. Jayla Triple Jumped her best ever at 36'6.25" at the 9C District meet. It was not only her best but the number one jump this year in Class C and a 9C District record and a State Class C record that was set 27-years ago by Janessa Jorgensen of KG. Oh yeah, and it was also a school record, held for 25 years by Carlane Jensen. CJI Coach Brittney Anderson noted that the jump would have won the Frontier Conference, at the college level.
Our Male Athlete of the Week also had a huge day at that 9c District meet. Jr. Cooper Streit, according to Coach Anderson, "took it upon himself," to run all three distance races, for the team's sake. And guess what...He won all three, the 800, the 1600 and the 3200. He had not run the 1600 and the 3200 all season long. He was also a key force on the CJI 400 relay Champions. We also heard this story, that we couldn't pass up. Cooper is an athlete always looking out for his team and as Coach Anderson put it, "perhaps more memorable than his victories, was how he came around on his final lap of the 2 mile and stayed behind his teammate, giving words of encouragement instead of passing by, at least until the end. A story you don't hear every day.
Our other consideration, for Male Athlete, Tanner Vick of Power/Dutton/Brady, a Jr. who won both hurdle events and the Pole Vault with a 3rd place finish in the Triple Jump.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athlete's of the Week, Jr. Jaycee Luse of Cut Bank and Jr. Cooper Streit of the CJI Hawks. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's of the Week with two free value meals each.
