KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
Our KSEN/K96 --Bozeman Trophy Male Athlete of the Week is a champion, and our Female Athlete of the Week is working hard to get there.
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Choteau senior Wrestler Nathan Gunderson. Nathan won his 1st Divisional Championship last weekend after a 2nd place in the Divisional last year. In the quest, Nathan was solid with 3 matches won by pin in the 1st period, and he then defeated Sloan Giles of Fairfield in the Championship 10-3. Giles has been ranked as high as 2nd in the State during the regular season. Gunderson has also had a most successful season with a record now of 37-5. 4 of his 5 losses came at the hands of #1 ranked AA Wrestlers. He should have a friendly 1st round seed at the upcoming State Tournament.
Our Female Athlete of the Week is still striving for a championship as her team, the CJI Hawks are fighting for a top seed in the 9C District with big hopes for the Northern C Divisional. Hawks Head Coach Jordan Miller is highly complementary of her sophomore Point Guard Brie Mattson who she said earlier this season, Brie plays "32 minutes in EVERY GAME. She's a workhorse." Brie is just 5'5" but in the team's win over Box Elder Saturday she pulled down 9 rebounds, had 23 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Against the very tough Fort Benton Longhorns on Friday night, she had 12 points and 5 rebounds....3 assists and 3 steals. Coach Miller says she handles the ball on offense almost constantly and always guards our opponents best ball handler. "An Unquestionable leader," the Coach said. And by the way, Brynn Kammerzell, a So. scored her 1000th career point in that Fort Benton game.
We also had quality nominations for Shelby Wrestler Kadence Montgomery, a Fr. who placed 3rd in the Divisionals, after being sick and will now compete at the State Tournament. Also, Shelby Sr. Adele Lamb with a great defensive effort in both the Conrad and Rocky Boys game. She scored 16 against Conrad and 20 against Rocky Boy.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, So. Brie Mattson of CJI and Sr. Nathan Gunderson of Choteau. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
