Metallica Premiere Unreleased Song At Anniversary Gig, Post Rough Mix Online
Metallica have unearthed a second previously unreleased outtake from their ‘Death Magnetic’ sessions and now the song, titled ‘Just a Bullet Away,’ is streaming online below.
Metallica played ‘Bullet’ live for the first time ever last night (Dec. 7) during the second of their special 30th anniversary concerts, which are taking place this week at the legendary Fillmore Theater in their hometown of San Francisco. The roughly-mixed tune is a sprawling, seven-minute monster of a thrash jam, hard-hitting and pulling no punches.
The second Fillmore gig featured a 20-song setlist and a slew of special guests, including former bassist Jason Newsted, Anthrax‘s Scott Ian, Kid Rock and recent ‘Lulu’ collaborator, Lou Reed. Check out all the details from last night and watch some videos featuring the special guests here.
“We’re pretty excited to be bringing these songs back to life nearly four years after they were recorded,” commented Metallica after posting the two tracks online. “Once again, this is the unpolished version of the song … the original rough mix from March of 2008 in its rawest, untouched form.”
Yesterday the ‘Death Magnetic’ outtake ‘Hate Train’ popped up online, a few days after Metallica premiered it at the first of their 30th anniversary shows. ‘Train’ is “more rock than thrash … it’s what you’d expect from ‘Tallica in 2008, which is when ‘Death Magnetic’ was done,” as we commented yesterday.
