We'll be reading about Montanan Minnie Spotted Wolf tonight (Tuesday) during Montana History at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. She was the woman who broke the barriers of both race & gender when she enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve back in July of 1943. Ms. Minnie was a member of the Blackfeet tribe & grew up on a ranch near Heart Butte. It's another fascinating TRUE TALE in our current book, "Beyond Schoolmarms and Madams: Montana Women's Stories" excellently put together & published by the Montana Historical Society down in Helena. Schoolmarms, madams, & lady switchboard operators at Many Glacier Hotel...they're ALL here in the book & it's turning out to be one FANTASTIC read. See you this evening at 6 for more Montana History at the Heritage!
