MSU Veteran Services to Host Memorial Ceremony in Honor of 20th Anniversary of 9/11 attacks

BOZEMAN — To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Veteran Services at Montana State University will host a brief memorial ceremony on Sept. 11. The event will take place at 9 a.m. at the flagpole south of Montana Hall on MSU’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.

After brief introductions, there will be a moment of silence at 9:03 a.m., — the time when hijacked Flight 175 struck floors 77 to 85 of the South Tower at the World Trade Center — followed by remarks from President Waded Cruzado. The ceremony will also include brief speeches from a student veteran and local law enforcement officer. The event will conclude with a flag ceremony.

Joseph Schumacher, director of Veteran Services, said the ceremony is meant to honor all service men and women, first responders and law enforcement who aided in the response and gave their lives two decades ago.

“No matter where you were 20 years ago, we want you with us here at MSU on this 20th anniversary to remember and honor those we have lost as well as support one another,” Schumacher said.
