Mt History At The Heritage
I'll be up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby this evening (Tuesday) to read more Montana History. We're enjoying the "Empty Mansions" book about the mysterious life of Huguette Clark & the spending of a great American fortune. Who knew? Though virtually unknown today, W.A. Clark was one of the 50 richest Americans, ever--copper baron, railroad builder, art collector, U.S. Senator & world-class scoundrel. Outside of the infamous Gary Thomas, Clark was a man who did it all! He lived on a Rockefeller scale, yet his daughter & heiress (the "H" is silent) Huguette (the "H" is silent on this one too) became a bizarre reclusive. I agree with John Berendt when he submits that "Empty Mansions" reveals this mysterious Clark family in sumptuous detail. Speaking of history...Bonnie Buckley Maldonado (her brother is Pat Buckley) who was raised up in the Sweet Grass area will be visiting the Marias Heritage Center this Friday afternoon, September 19th,at 2:30 for a special reading of her "Revisiting a Montana Childhood". I'll keep the "Reading chair" warmed up for her! She's a retired professor & author. She won a national award for her 3rd book & she'll be joining me on the Puffman Show Thursday afternoon at 4:30. Check out her website at: bonniebuckleymaldonado.com. I'm more than looking forward to reading more of "Empty Mansions" beginning at 6 o'clock SHARP tonight at the Heritage AND talking with Professor Bonnie Buckley Maldonado on Thursday's Puffman Show.
