Mystery Continues At The Heritage
I'm looking forward to reading more Montana History tonight (Tuesday) up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. "Empty Mansions; The Mysterious Life of Huguette Clark and the Spending of a Great American Fortune" is turning out to be one of the most compelling books we've enjoyed at the Heritage. Every week gets better. Authors Bill Dedman & Paul Clark Newell, Jr. have detailed Huguette's extreme spending, more than $300,000 a year, including the renovation of her bedroom to have furniture that looked exactly like her mother's bedroom. The cost of this bedroom furniture-which Hugette never saw because she was living in the hospital for the rest of her life-was $445,893 in 1991 dollars, or about $800,000 today! We're a long way from completing this tome BUT when we do, I intend to delve into a great new read from Farcountry Press..."Destination: Butte, Montana", based on the real-life stories of the author's (Colleen Clancy Hansen) ancestors that brings the mining city's tumultous early years to life. Creatively told & poignantly illustrated with 32 historical photographs & family documents, "Destination: Butte, Montana" promises to be a must-read for anyone interested in American history, immigrant stories, the labor movement, & life in Butte's bygone days. I encourage you to check out "Destination: Butte, Montana" from Farcountry Press at local bookstores & gift shops, through online retailers, or from Farcountry Press at: 1 800 821 3874 or: www.farcountrypress.com. See you tonight at 6 o'clock SHARP at the Heritage for MORE Montana History.
