Ruminating & Farming
I was sitting here with my teeth in my mouth thinking about Montana Agriculture, along with the "theme" for this year's National Ag Day on Thursday, March 14th. Did you know that a "RUMINANT," like a cow, goat or lamb, has FOUR stomach compartments & contrary to the belief of many "city folks," cows do NOT have 4 stomachs! No surprise for me because our average Montana cow eats over 40 pounds of forage a day. No wonder they need FOUR stomach compartments! In fact, it takes TEN pounds of milk from our cows to make 1 pound of cheese. This goes along with the theme for this year's National Ag Day which we're recognizing all this month at KSEN & KZIN... "Agriculture: Good for LIFE."
