Slaughter On The Otter

That's the title of the new/next book we'll be sharing & reading during Montana History at the Heritage. I'll be there this evening (Tuesday,) & we'll be concluding our current read, "Stump Town to Ski Town: the Story of Whitefish, Montana." Then we'll be moving on with our next book, "Slaughter on the Otter; The Kendrick Sheep Raid," meticulously researched by author Forest B. Dunning. Thanks to one of the "good guys in the publishing biz," Zachary Basinger, down at Farcountry Press in Helena!  On the early morning of December 28, 1900, a determined group of cattlemen led by a future Wyoming governor & U.S. senator destroyed a band of 2,113 head of sheep that had "invaded" their range. Mr. Dunning dives into the local history of a little known standoff between Montana ranchers since dubbed "a conspiracy of silence" for nearly 75 years until almost 40 years after the senator's death.
