Wilson Phillips Covers the Beach Boys Classic ‘Good Vibrations’
The Beach Boys have left their mark on many musicians, among them Brian Wilson’s daughters Wendy and Carnie Wilson, who with Chynna Phillips are the members of Wilson Phillips.
The female vocal trio shows plenty of respect for Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson on their new single — a cover of the band’s classic ‘Good Vibrations,’ which arrives at radio early next week.
The song can be found on the new Wilson Phillips album, ‘Dedicated,’ due April 3 from Sony Music Masterworks. The 11-track collection includes other Beach Boys covers as well as WP’s renditions of songs made famous by another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act, The Mamas and the Papas. That’s only fair because Phillips is the daughter of Michelle Phillips and the late John Phillips, who were two of the folk-rock group’s four original members.
Wilson Phillips will celebrate their 20th anniversary by touring this spring and summer. As for The Beach Boys, the surviving members of the iconic band are marking their 50th with a run of shows across North America starting April 24 in Tucson, Ariz., followed by a handful of August concerts in Germany and Japan.
According to Carnie Wilson, “It really is the perfect time to do this album.” You can hear Wilson Phillips’ version of ‘Good Vibrations’ and the rest of ‘Dedicated’ at their official website.
