Our KSEN/K96 –Bozeman Trophy  Male Athlete of the Week was praised by his coach as being the “offensive & defensive sparkplug,” that led his team to their 1st Conference victory and 1st victory of the season.  Our female Athlete of the Week made critical plays when matches were on the line in local Volleyball.

Conrad Head Coach Paul Schilling says “the presence of Sr. running back Brinkley Evans, changes the whole demeanor of our team.”  Due to injury, Evans had not played in any of the previous 3 Cowboy conference games, and all three ended with a loss. In a must-win against Wolf Point Friday night, Evans was back and he promptly ran the ball for 146 yards and 3 TD’s & 1 – 2pt. conversion.  He also tallied up 105 yards in kickoff and punt returns.  On the other side of the ball, just as good with 9 tackles and a diving interception in the end zone. With the win, the Cowboys now have a chance to advance to the playoffs if they can pull off a win over Cut Bank Friday night.

Our Female Athlete of the Week’s hitting and serving was said to be “critical,” during 4 matches that Valier played and won during the past week.   5’10” Sr. Hylee Layne totaled 31 kills in those 4 matches, 28 digs and 2 blocks but the real jaw-dropping number was 32 aces.  The Panthers had a long week with wins over Augusta, Sunburst, Cascade and then Sunburst again.   The last two matches both went 5 games and Head Coach Kadie Briggs said that Hylee’s serves and hitting were especially critical in those long sets.

Coach Briggs also gave special recognition to Kinley Kovatch, the teams’ setter with a 76 assists and Hannah Monroe with 8 aces and 44 kills.

Congratulations to our KSEN/k96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete ‘s of the Week, Sr. Brinkley Evans of the Conrad Cowboys and Sr. Hylee Lane of the Valier Panthers.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
