Athlete of the Year
Another 200-yard game and a victory in Shelby highlight the achievements of our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week.
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Freshman Stella Wahl of Cut Bank. It's early in the season but Stella posted her best time of the year, 20:43.7, to win the Shelby X-Country Invitational at Marias Valley Monday. Wahl was an All-State runner last year, finishing 10th in the State behind Aeris Stewart of Shelby, who finished 3rd at the State meet last year. At the meet Monday, Wahl was able to outrun Stewart by about 25-seconds. Cut Bank X-Country Coach Brian Suttle says, as just a Fr. she is, "still just learning race strategy and just how to run H.S. distances." He said Wahl is a level-headed individual for someone with that amount of talent and one who is always willing to step in and help teammates and the Jr. High runners. Stella was also a Divisional Champion Wrestler last season. We also had a nomination for Jaycee Luse, the Jr. Co-Captain for the Cut Bank Volleyball team, leading the Wolves to wins over Dutton/Brady and Rocky Boy.
Our Male Athlete of the Week has led the way for 3 weeks in a row and it's resulted in a 3-0 record for the Choteau Bulldogs Football team. Senior running back Nate Gunderson. had another outstanding game as Choteau won their 3rd in a row against Chinook 34-18. In that game, Gunderson racked up 206 yards on 25 carries and scored 2 Touchdowns. If you do the math that's more than 8-yards per carry. He was also stellar on defense from his Middle Linebacking positions recording 5 solo tackles, 8 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Fr. Stella Wahl of Cut Bank and Sr. Nate Gunderson from Choteau. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athlete's with two free value meals each.
