KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
As the football team heads into the Semi-finals of the 6-man football playoffs and the Volleyball team is in the State Tournament, it's no surprise that our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week are both from the CJI Hawks.
On the football field, the Hawks avenged their only loss of the season with a dominating win over the DGSG Bearcats. There were numerous outstanding performances in the game, but we thought, none better than QB Ryland St. John. The numbers certainly are that as St. John hit 11-16 passes for 186 yards 5 Touchdowns. He carried the ball 15 times for 189 yards for a whopping 375 yards total offense. With great blocking in front of him and talented receivers all over the field, Head Coach Jim Vinson agreed, he made good decisions all day long. And on defense as well! A pass rusher, St. John had constant pressure on the Bearcats talented QB Tyce Smith. He ended the day with 7 solo tackles, 2 assists, three of the tackles for loss and 1 sack. Dane Grammar had 2 TD catches for the Hawks and a blocked punt and Levi Nelson and Cooper Streit each had 2 Touchdowns.
On the Volleyball court, we weren't able to get a lot of input from Head Coach Jordan Miller as the Lady Hawks had a short week before heading to Bozeman and the State Tournament, but we do know that Coaches love a great setter, and Jr. Piper Erickson was just that. She led the team in every one of the Divisional matches in assists and added 10-digs, 5 kills and 4 aces. In the setting category, Piper's accurate setting and great decision making led to 132 assists for the Tournament, an average of over 26 per game. In the match against Simms to get to the Championship, Brynn Kammerzell had 20 kills, and MaRae Smail had 7. Erickson had 43 assists setting the table for the big hitters.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Ryland St. John and Jr. Piper Erickson, both from the CJI Hawks. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
