BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, a superdelegate, is not attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Bullock campaign spokesman Jason Pitt tells The Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/2a9RCsc ) that Bullock wanted to stay in Montana and that his absence had nothing to do with Bullock not wanting to be associated with presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders won 11 Montana delegates in the primary, while Clinton won 10. However, four of the state's five superdelegates in attendance — who were not bound by the primary results — backed Clinton. Clinton edged Sanders 14-12 in Montana's delegate vote.

Democratic governors from West Virginia and American Samoa also did not attend the convention. West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin stayed home to deal with the aftermath of devastating flooding that killed at least a dozen people last month.
