Montana Losing Another Major Retail Store

It looks like Montana is about to lose another place to shop, as the parent company behind Eddie Bauer prepares to file for bankruptcy.

Eddie Bauer, which is owned by Authentic Brands Group and managed by Catalyst Brands, is expected to file for Chapter 11 and shut down all of its brick-and-mortar stores across America.

Eddie Bauer Closures Are Already Hitting Montana

If you spend any time on social media, this probably isn’t a big surprise. Montana has already started feeling the impact.

The Eddie Bauer store in Bozeman officially closed for good on January 31, 2026, and it was not the first location in the state to shut down. The Missoula store at Southgate Mall closed just a couple of years earlier on January 29, 2024.

That leaves only the Billings location still open, but the big question is how long that will last.

Only One Montana Eddie Bauer Store Remains, For Now

To get an answer, I called the Billings Eddie Bauer store directly, and they confirmed that yes, they will be closing as well. As of now, there is no firm shutdown date.

According to an employee at the store, they are aiming for an end-of-April closure. That timeline could change depending on how quickly inventory sells, which means it could happen sooner.

After losing a lot of well-known places to shop in 2025, hearing about a brand shutting down every location nationwide is not exactly encouraging. It definitely raises some questions about the long-term health of retail and the overall economy.
