It was a week for great play in local sports, and we ended up with 6 nominations for our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week.
We start with the ladies where Shelby got some attention in the Northern Division in Volleyball by coming up with Conference wins over Fort Benton and then Fairfield.  One of the leaders in those key victories, senior Hadley Clary. Shelby Head Coach Lexy Fisher says, "Hadley consistently steps up when we need her and leads by example on and off the court."   The Coach says, "her work ethic, composure and commitment to teammates, make her an incredible leader." In the Fort Benton match, Clary led the Coyotes in kills with 14 and added 4-aces in the serving box.  In the 3-0 win over Fairfield, among the top teams in the Conference, she had 11 kills and 2 aces along with numerous digs and assists.
We also had a strong nomination for Shelby's Elly McDermott.   Elly's performance was also a big factor for the team's success and maybe most impressive was her 36 assists in the Fort Benton match and her incredible 46-48 on serve percentage.   And finally, a nomination for Sr. Brynn Kammerzell of CJI, our Athlete of the year for the past two years. Brynn recorded her 1,000th career kill in a CJI win over Power/Dutton/Brady.  She had 14 kills in the match, along with 7 aces and 3 blocks.
Our Male Athlete ended up on the short side of an amazing battle in Chester, but we still felt the performance by Powe/Dutton/Brady QB Mason Vick was as good as it gets. P-D-B Head Coach Tom Tranmer called it the best QB performance he's seen in a long time and the numbers bare that out.  Vick, a Jr. was 34-41 passing (82%) for 392 yards and 6 Touchdowns.   On the other side of the ball, Mason was in on 6 tackles and had 2 pass deflections. And, Oh Yeah, he was 4-4 kicking extra points and threw for 2-extra points.  Despite all of that CJI came up with the win 50-46 on a Touchdown in the last minute.
Our other two nominees came from the Hawks.   Ryan Ramberg with two touchdowns, 10 tackles and a 76-yard interception return in the 4th quarter.  Also, Levi Nelson, with 19 rushes for over 200-yards, an interception and two touchdowns.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Power/Dutton/Brady Jr. Mason Vick and Shelby Sr. Hadley Clary. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
