Great American State Fair Opens On The National Mall

Right now in Washington, D.C., Montana is helping show the rest of the country why we’re called "The Last Best Place."

It’s all part of the 250th celebration of America’s independence.

Montana Exhibit Highlights State’s Regions and Landscapes

The Great American State Fair just kicked off on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., running from June 25 through July 10.

Officials expect close to 2 million visitors to come through and check out exhibits from all 50 states and seven U.S. territories.

Montana’s display is set up to give people a full taste of the Treasure State in one stop.

Montana Aims to Inspire Future Visitors at National Showcase

It starts in eastern Montana with Makoshika State Park, highlighting the fossils and unique rock formations you find out there. From there, it moves into central Montana, focusing on agriculture and mining, with wheat fields and old mining headframes on display.

Then western Montana brings it home with mountains, camping scenes, and all the outdoor recreation the state is known for. There are also a number of Montana “experts” on hand, mostly educators volunteering their time, including a paleontologist from the Carter County Museum.

The whole point is to introduce Montana to people who have never been here before and hopefully convince a few of them to come see it for themselves.
