Another Major Drug Dealer Goes to Prison… Is Montana On a Roll?

Montana law enforcement continues to ramp up efforts to crack down on crime and in particular, drug operations across the state.

Basically, if you're trying to smuggle drugs in Montana... you're going to have a bad time.

Montana Officials Crack Down on Meth, Fentanyl

Just yesterday, I shared a story with you about four individuals who were sentenced for being a part of a big meth ring operating out of Great Falls.

Now, I get to report another Montana criminal who will spend a huge chunk of time behind bars for pushing illegal drugs into our community.

Brian John Schmidt, 41, out of Billings was sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised released for trafficking meth and fentanyl into our communities.

Officials say Schmidt Jr. admited to traveling to Denver to get the drugs and coming back to Montana to distribute them.

But here's where it gets wild: officials say that Schmidt Jr. tried to swallow a bag of fentanyl pills so law enforcement wouldn't find them before he was arrested.

Montana Law Enforcement Keeps the Pressure On

This sentencing is the latest in a string of crackdowns on drugs within Montana.

Back in July, Attorney General Austin Knudsen promised Montanans that their work was far from done and from the looks of it, he's made good on his promise to pursue drug dealers trying to operate in Montana

"Fentanyl and other dangerous drugs continue to threaten communities, and the battle against the cartels that are bringing them into our state is far from over. Montana’s anti-drug task forces continue to aggressively target drug traffickers and adapt to changing trends," Attorney General Knudsen said.

"The Montana Department of Justice remains committed to seizing illegal drugs before they reach our communities."

Will We Ever Put a Stop to Illegal Drugs in Montana?

I've seen a lot of comments from cynics who think these types of arrests don't have any major impact on the drug trade.

Some even believe these criminals will be back out on the street in no time and back to selling drugs.
