Last week Wrestling. This week both of our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week come from the Basketball World.
Our Female Athlete of the Week put together a big game that allowed Shelby to hand Choteau their first loss of the season.  The game was tight throughout, and Shelby never had a lead in the game until the 3rd quarter behind the shooting of Jr. Guard Elly McDermott. Elly not only kept the Coyotes in it with her long-range shooting but also iced the game with free throw shots in the final 18 seconds. The Coyotes won by 4 and McDermott ended the night with 18 points off 5-3's and three of four at the line in those final seconds.   McDermott also had a number of steals and assists.
It was a great team effort, and we also had a nomination for Jr. Preslee Flesch who pulled down some key rebounds in the Choteau game and had a double-double with rebounds and points in a win over Conrad Saturday.
Our Male Athlete of the Week also put together a huge game as the Fairfield boys kept their conference record perfect with wins over Rocky Boy and Fort Benton. Fairfield is typically a very balanced scoring team, but when needed, Sr. Deron Lear can take things over.  That was the case Saturday as he finished the night with 32-points off 11-15 shooting from the field.  He was 8-10 from behind the 3-point line and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds.  Add to that 6 assists and 4-steals and it was a pretty complete night. In the Rocky Boy game the night before, Deron scored 13 points, 4-rebounds and 1 assist as Fairfield starters only played about half the game. The win over Fort Benton was the Longhorns 1st loss in the conference and Fairfield improved to 7-0 and 8-2 overall.
Congratulations to our KSEN/k96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Elly McDermott of Shelby and Sr. Deron Lear of Fairfield. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals.
