KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
Aggressive, intuitive and confident would be three words to accurately describe this week's KSEN/K96 -- Bozeman Trophy Athlete's of the week.
We start with our Female Athlete of the Week, who has now won her 3rd State B/C Wrestling Championship. Simms Jr. Hayley Petersen never really even came close to losing a match at the State Tournament. She was the #1 seed in the 110-pound weight class and pinned all four of her opponents, including Payten Van Pelt of Billings West in the Championship Match in 1-min and 38-seconds. Hayley did fall behind quickly in that match but recovered quickly. Hayley wins the girls quick pin award with 4 pins, in 6-min, 21-seconds and she finished the season with a 34-1 record. Simms Head Coach Robert Hazenberg says Hayley is just full of confidence, is strong, and does whatever work it takes to prepare. In her Sr. season, Hayley has the chance to become Simms 1st ever 4-time State Champion and lead the Lady Tigers to their 3rd Straight State Class C Team Championship. Coach Hazenberg told us, Simms did have a 4-time Boys State Champion...Ryan Leonard, approximately 15-years ago.
Our Male Athlete of the Week, for the 2nd time this season, Conrad Sr. Tegan Jones where Wrestling Championships run in the family. Tegan finished the season with an incredible 49-4 record. Jones had two pins and a technical fall in his 1st 3 matches. Conrad Coach Luke Schlosser says Tegan's work ethic and conditioning are a big part of his success and in terms of the matches Luke says he's always pretty focused on getting that initial takedown and controlling the match from there. We mentioned the family tradition. Tegan's dad Aaron won three State Championships in 2001-02-03 and his brothers, Eddie and Daniel also won State Championships.
We also had nominations this week for Conrad Wrestler Lucy Armstrong who became Conrad's 1st ever female State Champion and Sunburst So. Ethan Samsal who scored 26 and 27 points respectively in two games Sat. and vaulted Sunburst into the Divisional Tournament.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Simms Jr. Hayley Petersen and Conrad Sr. Tegan Jones. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athletes with two free value meals each.
