KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week
(Undated) – Both of our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week had big scoring weekends and great all-around play helping their teams win big games in front of next week’s District Tournaments.
The Fairfield Eagles, who have now won 8 in a row, avenged a loss earlier in the season to Rocky Boy with a 71-66 victory. 6-foot Jr. Guard Cooper Christensen was the leading scorer in that game with 17 points. The Eagles present a balanced scoring attack but Christensen, more than not, is leading the way in big games. He also was the leading scorer with 18 in their win over Shelby.
Fairfield head Coach Jordan Ratliff says he “played well,” and also averaged 5 rebounds and 2 assists in two weekend games. He shot 4-7 from 3-point range in the two contests and had 12 vs. Conrad, a game in which he only played about 10 minutes due to Fairfield building a large lead early in the game.
Our female Athlete of the Week really came thru with one of her biggest games of the year in a game that really mattered as Shelby gave themselves a chance to advance as high as 3rd or 4th in the District 1B standings. Lady Coyotes Sr. Vivian McDermott led the way in scoring in that win over 3rd place Choteau with 15 points. She hit 3-3’s and went 4-5 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter to help Shelby lock down the win.
She also had big games against a tough Class A Columbia Falls team Fri. and Sat. with 5-3’s in the Friday game and then led the team in scoring Sat., 4-3’s and 2-2 at the line.
Shelby girls coaches Mac and Ryan Mcdermott say she also had her best rebounding and defensive effort of the season in all three games. In addition to the scoring McDermott is one of Shelby’s best ball handlers.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Jr. Cooper Christensen of Fairfield and Sr. Vivian McDermott of Shelby. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
