KSEN/KZIN Athletes of the Week
All three of our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week are State Wrestling Champions. I would hesitate to call our Male Athletes of the Week, Co-Athletes of the week, so we'll just say we have two Athletes of the Week.
It's never easy to win a State Championship in anything, but our first State Champion, senior Asher Clayton of Choteau did have the easiest time of the three, in his finals match at 132-lbs. Clayton finished up a tremendous career with his 2nd Straight Championship in Montana, along with a State Championship that he had won in Alaska before moving here. Overall, he was 47-2 in the 2024-25 season and 161-10 in his 4-year career. In the State Tournament Asher pinned his 1st opponent in 41 seconds and won the next three by major decision.
Our 2nd State Champion at 165 lbs., Alex Wahl of Cut Bank, leading the Wolves to a 2nd place, Class B finish. Alex final match was a tough one as he took an early lead with a takedown and then had an escape to win 4-2. Cut Bank Head Coach Cody Fetters said everyone was pretty excited about Wahl's win, but with Alex, not a highly emotional individual, it may have been more of a relief than anything. That, because he had finished 2nd, the last two years in a row and didn't want a three-peat with that. Alex also finished off a brilliant career with a 48-3 record this season and 161-19 overall.
Our Female Athlete of the Week had the toughest finals match of all. Sophomore Hayley Peterson of Simms at 110-lbs. captured her 2nd straight State Championship, but it took double overtime to get it done. Simms Head Coach Robert Hazenberg said Hayley's win played a big role in Simms taking the State C title for the girls. She finished the season undefeated at 29-0 and now a two-time State Champion.
We also had a nomination this week for Katy Morris of Simms, a Jr. who scored a double-double in Simms game last weekend.
Congratulations to our KSEN Athletes of the Week, senior Asher Clayton of Choteau, senior Alex Wahl of Cut Bank, and sophomore Hayley Peterson of Simms. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
