KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
Our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy female Athlete of the Week has been balancing two sports all season long and is excelling in both. Our Male Athlete of the Week sat out most the fall, but his return was stupendous!
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Choteau Jr. Natalie Hodgskiss. Natalie finished in 6th place at last weekend's State X-Country meet, best among all area Class B & C Athlete's. The finish led the Fairfield/Choteau X-Country Co-op to a 5th place team finish. The place in the State meet was no surprise, considering she finished 1st in 4 0f the 7 meets that she was able to compete in this fall. More meets might have been desirable, but Natalie had to make sure she was also giving her best on the Volleyball court. She's a starting hitter for the Choteau Bulldogs and Coach Callee Peebles she was a major force in key wins last week against 2nd place Shelby and Chinook. Hodgskiss had 7 kills in each of those matches along with several digs and a block in each match. Of course, Natalie receives All-State honors for the finish in the State X-Country meet and Coach Peebles says in both sports, "she is a quiet, steady leader, competing in and training for two sports this fall.
We also had an excellent nomination for X-country runner Aeris Stewart of Shelby who also gained all-state status finishing 8th at the State meet. This was her 4th consecutive year of earning All-State honors. Coach Caydon Keller says the season was "full of challenges with tough courses, heat, wind, and deep fields, but Aeris never backed down." The Coach called Aeris, "one of the most decorated distance runners in Shelby's history." Also nominated, So. Libero, Scarlett Sundgren of the CJI Hawks, who Coach Jordan Miller calls, "a great little Athlete who had 24 aces, and 54 digs in 3 match wins last week.
Our Male Athlete of the Week had not played Football since the 2nd game of the season, due to an injury, but what a difference he made when he returned for the final game of the season. Cael Blevins completed the Triple play with a Touchdown run, a TD pass, and a TD reception. In all, the So. QB ran 16 times for 98 yards. He was 5-11 passing for 83 yards and a TD and he caught a TD pass from Marshall Richman that sealed the deal for just the second win of the season for the Shelby Coyotes Oh by the way, Cael was pretty tough on defense too with 5 tackles and 3 punts for a net 76 yards. Head Coach Dean Lerum commented, "quite a difference maker."
We also had a nomination for the 3rd week in a row, so very deserving, for CJI So. Levi Nelson, another fabulous game for the CJI Hawks. His role, in the Hawks Conference Championship game was huge according to Head Coach Jim Vinson. 117 yards on 10 carries for 3 Touchdowns and a reception for a TD and 5-6 Point after TD kicks.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Natalie Hodgskiss of Choteau and So. Cael Blevins of Shelby. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
