A few years back, our good friend, Philip Aaberg, had a DNA analysis done & discovered that he had Ukrainian heritage. Like most of us, Phil's heart aches for the people in Ukraine. In fact, when he signed on with Windham Hill Records, he composed & recorded an arrangement of the most famous Ukrainian carol, "Carol of the Bells." Flash forward to TODAY! This past year, Philip composed a Carol for Ukraine. When working on this piece, he actually wrote 6 themes, & when he played them back, they all felt like sighs of compassion for what's going on in the hideous war. You know Phil...he used them all & included the traditional Carol of the Bells using his own arrangement. Philip wrote this right before his solo piano Christmas concert at the Myrna Loy Theater in Helena, this past Christmas season. According to Aaberg, "Our action to aid Ukraine starts with deep compassion for the people but has to include all those who have been entrapped in this horrible thing including all soldiers & civilians." May this music generate compassion for all those caught up in the war. Please enjoy Philip Aaberg's "A Carol for Ukraine"...(used with permission from Philip Aaberg courtesy of Sweetgrass Music.) By the way, Phil's solo piano recording are like the Puff Man Show...NO overdubs, NO AI!
