KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK GET HIGH PRAISE FROM THEIR COACHES AND HAVE THE NUMBERS TO SHOW THEY DESERVE IT.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS GO TO A SR. PLAYER WHOSE SCORING IN THE 20’S WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT GIVES THE VALIER LADY PANTHERS A CONSISTENT CHANCE TO WIN.  VALIER HEAD COACH MICHELLE BECK SAYS HER SR. LEADER, TEIA LACKNER ACTUALLY LOVES DEFENSE BUT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE ON OFFENSE AS WELL.  WE WOULD AGREE AFTER SHE PUT UP 22 POINTS, HAD 11 REBOUNDS, 2 ASSISTS AND 6 STEALS IN A WIN OVER HEART BUTTE.  IT WAS RIGHT BACK TO WORK THE NEXT NIGHT.  LACKNER’S 25 POINTS, 21 REBOUNDS, 2 ASSISTS AND ONE STEAL WERE HUGE IN A WIN OVER POWER, A TEAM THEY HAD LOST TO BY 10 IN THEIR 1ST REGULAR SEASON MEETING. LACKNER HAD A SEASON HIGH 27 AGAINST ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN THE 10C, THE GREAT FALLS CENTRAL MUSTANGS EARLIER.  BECK SAYS HER SR. STAR WORKED HARD IN THE OFF-SEASON TO BECOME A BETTER PLAYER AND TEAMMATE AND SHE WILL BE TOUGH TO REPLACE NEXT YEAR.

OUR BOYS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, WAS A 2ND PLACE FINISHER AT THE STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT AT 113-LBS.  FRESHMAN ROPER MYCKE “DID A SUPER JOB IN THAT STATE TOURNAMENT,” ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH KEVIN MORITZ. IN THE SEMI’S, ROPER BEAT A WRESTLER FROM CIRCLE WHO HAD BEATEN HIM JUST TWO WEEKS EARLIER IN THE MALTA TOURNAMENT.  HE OBVIOUSLY DIDN’T LET ONE LOSS INTIMIDATE HIM AS HE WON THAT SEMIFINAL MATCH BY TECHNICAL FALL….WHICH OCCURS ANYTIME ONE WRESTLER IS 15 OR MORE POINTS AHEAD IN A MATCH. ROPER’S STORY ALSO INCLUDES THE FACT THAT HE DIDN’T GET TO WRESTLE AT ALL AS AN 8TH GRADER DUE TO A BROKEN COLLAR BONE.  MORITZ CALLED THAT A NOTABLE COMEBACK.   HE ALSO TOLD US THAT ROPER IS A GREAT KID WHO LOVES THE SPORT AND MONDAY AFTER THE STATE TOURNAMENT HE WAS IN THE WRESTLING ROOM WITH THE COACH ROLLING OUT MATS AND HELPING WITH THE JR. HIGH WRESTLERS.

ALSO NOMINATED THIS WEEK, JR. KOLBY KOVATCH FOR THE 2ND WEEK IN A ROW AFTER HE HIT 7-3’s in the 2nd HALF AND HAD 23 POINTS AGAINST CUT BANK LAST SAT. NIGHT.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK, FR. ROPER MYCKE OF CONRAD AND SR. TEIA LACKNER OF VALIER.   THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS SPONSORED LOCALLY BY McDonald's IN CUT BANK.   McDonald's HONORS OUR ATHLETE’S WITH TWO FREE VALUE MEALS EACH.
