Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bonnie Raitt has been away from the mic for way too long, something that will change with the forthcoming release of ‘Slipstream’ on April 10. It will be her first new album in seven years.

‘Slipstream,’ which will be released on her own label, finds Raitt once again reworking material by other artists into her own classic versions, tackling two Bob Dylan tracks and a song from the late Gerry Rafferty amidst the diverse slew of songs that were recorded for the new release.

Raitt revisits a creatively rich period of Dylan’s music, with her versions of two songs from his acclaimed 1997 album ‘Time Out Of Mind’ –  ‘Million Miles’ and ‘Standing In The Doorway.’

She worked for the first time with producer Joe Henry and his band of musicians on four of the songs. Apparently, these sessions were personally energizing for Raitt, who afterwards found herself sufficiently inspired to record enough additional material for an album with her own band, most of which was self-produced.

“Hearing myself in this new setting, how deep and effortlessly it went down, really inspired me to start a new record,” says Raitt. “Working with Joe and his guys and then reuniting with mine really got my creative juices flowing again.”

‘Slipstream’ brings Raitt back to music after a period of hiatus in which she mourned the loss of several loved ones including her parents, brother and best friend. Fully re-engaged, Raitt will return to the road this year for her first tour dates since 2009.
