Planned Parenthood Campaign Wants You to ‘Check-in’ When Having Safe Sex

You “check in” on Facebook or FourSquare to let the world know when you’re at a concert, work, hanging out with friends or even going to bed. So why not when you’re having protected sex?

The Planned Parenthood recently launched a web-based campaign where people can share details of their protected sexual experience.

The campaign, called Where Did You Wear It, allows users to go online or use a scannable QR code on the back of condoms distributed by the Planned Parenthood, to share their protected sexual experience.

You put in your location, your gender, your partners gender, your age range, relationship status, whether you’ve talked to your partner about STDs, why you used the condom, the exact location of the sexual encounter and rate the experience.

Here’s a sample check in:

A 20 something guy and a girl whose relationship is getting serious and have already talked about safer sex and STDs used a condom in the shower because no one wants an STD. It was ah-maz-ing – rainbows exploded and mountains trembled.

“Condoms are an essential tool in preventing unintended pregnancy and stopping the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV,” Nathan Engebretson, Planned Parenthood of the Greater North West New Media Coordinator, said in a statement. “We hope the site promotes discussions within relationships about condoms and helps to remove perceived stigmas that some people may have about condom use.  Where Did You Wear It attempts to create some fun around making responsible decisions.”

According to the Planned Parenthood, half of all Americans will get an STD by age 25. If used properly, condoms are the best contraceptive and STD prevention method for both men and women.
