There's a good chance you're aware or have heard of ICE raids going on around our country and there's been a ton of focus on Minneapolis amidst the recent shootings.

It has gotten to a point where Montana officials are speaking up and addressing rumors about ICE raids in Montana.

ICE Protests in Great Falls

Most of Montana has seen all of the coverage about ICE's actions in Minneapolis and as a result, some in Montana have called for protests in Great Falls which drew the attention of Great Falls Mayor Cory Reeves.

"Recently, people on social media began sharing reports of ICE in Montana," Mayor Reeves said on Facebook, " As a result of these rumors, some individuals around the state felt the need to 'prepare' or even plan protests against ICE."

"The Commission has zero control over federal immigration enforcement or incidents that happen in other cities or states. We cannot direct, influence, or change those actions."

He also reminded folks that "comment at commission meetings is not a free-for-all to hijack a meeting for unrelated political protests."

Is ICE in Montana?

As Mayor Reeves shared, social media fueled rumors of ICE conducting raids in Montana and Bozeman Police Department shared their own statement about their involvement with the federal agency.

"The BPD is not involved in civil immigration enforcement," Bozeman police said, "We will not assist or participate in civil immigration enforcement, nor will BPD take extra steps to determine an individual’s immigration status."

"If federal agencies operate within Bozeman solely related to federal immigration enforcement, BPD will prioritize responding to ensure public safety. We cannot interfere with federal agencies lawfully performing their duties, but it is our duty to ensure public safety."

Now, the big question... is ICE operating in Montana? If you're curious, you might want to save this little tool circulating around.

Map of ICE Activity

A new site tracking ICE activity across the county has become more popular as updates continue to come out of Minneapolis.

The site is simply called Ice In My Area and allows you to track where ICE is operating in America. If you zoom in Montana, you'll find that there is one account of ICE activity and it took place off I-90 in Drummond, Montana.

"Another person posted this on a local Missoula reddit thread," the description of the activity says on the map.

"I tried to crop it down to get both screenshots uploaded but this site only allows 1 so it is the second part of their story."

Now, it's important to note that this tracker solely relies on community submissions and it doesn't appear there's any real "verification" system in place.
