KSEN/K96 Athlete of the Week
KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week performances were plentiful last weekend, but we narrowed it down to two of the best.
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to a player that seems to have a thing for the Rocky Boy Gym. Shelby got off to a rough start in Rocky Boy Saturday, down 11-2 early, before So. Elly McDermott caught fire and hit four straight 3-point shots to put the Coyotes in the lead. But that certainly was not the end of an historic night as Elly went on to hit 4 more 3's and break the single game, 27-year-old school record of Tracy (Staub) Richman. She also had a mere 2-point field goal and 26 points total. The talented guard-forward played all phases of the game and ended with 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Against Conrad the night before, Elly had 8 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 3 rebounds. It was almost one year ago, on February 7th, when McDermott was named Athlete of the Week for her performance in Rocky Boy where she scored 28 points, 8 of them in the 4th qtr to tie the game. She had 11 rebounds and 5 steals in that game.
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Conrad star senior Teagan Arnold. Arnold's offensive and defensive prowess were on display especially in wins over Cut Bank and Shelby. In the Friday game against Shelby, Conrad got down early but Arnold's constant steals and scores, put the Cowboys right back in it. Arnold ended the night with 22 points, 4 assists, 6 steals, and 4 rebounds. It was a similar performance, earlier in the week when he scored 22 against Cut Bank, had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. He added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals against Choteau. All three games had Conrad in total control at the end as they vaulted their record to 6-2 and 10th place ranking in the "Montana Sports" class B Power Poll.
We also had a quality nomination for Choteau Fr. Wrestler Jesse Gebhardt who won the Championship at 144 lbs. at the Cut Bank Invitational. 3 of his 5 matches were won by pin.
