Big Sky Resort opened Saturday for 1 day of playing on the slopes after a week of snow storms & snow making that provided some 30 inches of powder. The Swift Current chair lift opened at 9 Saturday morning to the whoops & cheers of skiers & snowboarders alike who began lining up well before 8 in the morning. Although "The buzz" this ski season is El Nino, Big Sky reports of the 33 years of snow data collected at the resort, 10 of those years have been an El Nino year & 60% of those El Nino years have been above average or average snow fall for Big Sky Resort. Big Sky Resort ran their Swift Current & Explorer chair lifts for accesses to the beginner run, Mr. K & by 10 in the morning, had opened their Lone Peak Triple chair lift with access to intermediate run, Upper Morningstar. Sheila D'Amico, the PR big wig down at Big Sky shouts, "It's so fun to open for 1 day to get some early powder turns & celebrate a great start to a new ski season!" You're telling me Sheila...I would had been there myself but I was tied up with volleyball brackets up here in the Sports Department" By the way, Big Sky Resort's official opening day is Thursday, November 26th, & the Madison Base Area opening is Friday, December 11th. Be cool & stay warm!
