Many Major League Baseball players are looking for more than just a big payday these days, they also want security. Long-term deals can be a tough decision for both the player and his team.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia secured a $100 million, seven-year deal on Tuesday, according to sources. He’ll now be with Boston into his late 30s.

A big-money, multiyear deal might be good for the player, but what about the team? The New York Yankees have found that out the hard deal with Alex Rodriguez, and Albert Pujols has been far less productive since signing his 10-year deal with the Angels before last season.
