Going to the Sun Road Open!

Drivers Encouraged to Drive with Care
WEST GLACIER, MT. – The Going-to-the-Sun Road is now open in its entirety to motorized vehicle travel. Visitors can drive the whole length of the road, including access at Logan Pass. Park work crews have finished snow removal, assessed current snow conditions, cleaned up rocks and other road debris, finished guard rail installation, and have prepared Logan Pass facilities for visitor use. Services at Logan Pass include restroom facilities and potable water. The Logan Pass Visitor Center is also now open daily from 9 am to 7 pm through September 4. The center offers information about the park, ranger programs, and a bookstore managed by the Glacier National Park Conservancy.

Montana Wolf Population Strong

Wolf numbers in Montana remained healthy in 2016 and more than three times the federally-mandated minimums.

Montana’s annual wolf report shows a minimum of 477 wolves were counted for 2016. This is down from 536 wolves counted in 2015, but doesn’t necessarily reflect a reduction in wolf numbers, but rather a reduction in counting effort.  Included in this number is a minimum number of 50 breeding pairs. This compares to a minimum count of 32 breeding pairs in 2015, and 34 breeding pairs in 2014.
