Elton John Wants Justin Timberlake to Play Him in a Movie
Justin Timberlake may be “burning out his fuse out there alone” if Elton John has anything to say about it. With plans for a biopic in the works, Sir Elton has declared the one time teen star Timberlake as his top choice to play him.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Elton said “I’ve got a wish list of people, No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake. He played me before in a David LaChappelle video and was superb.” The video he refers to was for the song ‘This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore’ from Elton’s 2001 album ‘Songs From The West Coast’. In that video, Timberlake portrayed an early 70′s-era Elton John.
The planned biopic will be called ‘Rocketman,’ and is, according to the Rocket Man himself, “a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a ‘Moulin Rouge!’” John, who also refers to the film as a “jukebox musical,” will produce and says “I just don’t want it to be a normal biopic because my life hasn’t been like that.”
Aside from a film on his past, Elton has his future to think of, and that includes a documentary, directed by Cameron Crowe and soon to air on HBO, about the making of ‘The Union,’ the album Elton made with longtime hero Leon Russell. Also, Elton is nominated for a Golden Globe for his song ‘Hello Hello’ from the film ‘Gnomeo & Juliet.’
And if that’s not enough, Sir Elton plans to go into the studio later this month to being work on yet another album. “I have the lyrics from Bernie, and I’m very excited about them. I haven’t any clue what the songs are going to be like because I haven’t written them yet. I’m going to try to write them in Honolulu in January in my hotel room on an upright piano. If not, I’ll be writing in the studio.”
