FWP Commission To Meet In Helena Aug. 2
Montana’s Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet Aug. 2 in Helena to adopt early season migratory bird hunting regulations, bison hunting quotas and furbearer trapping seasons and quotas for 2012.
The meeting, set to begin at 8:30 a.m., will be held at FWP’s Helena headquarters, 1420 E. Sixth Ave.
Commissioners also will consider proposals on upcoming waterfowl seasons; elk management objectives; updating administrative rules for Montana’s wildlife management areas; and fishing regulation changes for 2013.
The agenda includes final decisions on selling left-over nonresident deer licenses, and awarding certain conservation groups the opportunity to auction a bighorn sheep, deer, elk, moose, and mountain goat hunting license.
On land matters, commissioners will be asked to approve a donation to Travelers Rest State Park near Missoula, a farming lease on North Shore WMA on Flathead Lake, and an addition to Marshall Creek WMA near Seeley Lake. New land related proposals include a timber management project on the Blackfoot/Clearwater WMA south of Seeley Lake, a Garr Canyon access project near Dell, and several habitat acquisition project endorsements.
Updates will be presented to the commission on Montana’s drought status and the upcoming revision of Montana’s State Wildlife Action Plan.
