Memorial Day came about when former Grand Army of the Republic General John Logan suggested that May 30th be a day for "strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died defending our country." The practice spread throughout the Northern states, although the states of the former Confederacy observed their own separate days. FINALLY...after all the losses of our soldiers & sailors in World War I, we came together for the common national holiday that we now call "Memorial Day." This weekend, Sunday morning Memorial Day Services include coffee & donuts at 9 at the Legion Hall up in Sweetgrass, then it's on to the Sweetgrass & Sunburst cemeteries. There'll be lunch at Sunburst City Hall put on by the Sunburst VFW. I'll be  posting Monday's Memorial Day Services soon. As polarized as our country is these days, here's hoping that we can all come together this holiday weekend & "Salute" ALL who have served & are serving today. The very best to you this Memorial Day Weekend.
