Montana Governor Declares Emergency in Four Counties

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Wildfires have prompted Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer to declare a state of emergency in four counties. The order allows Schweitzer to mobilize state resources and the Montana National Guard in Lewis and Clark, Broadwater, Jefferson and Madison counties. Lewis and Clark County officials began evacuating additional homes north of Helena as strong winds yesterday afternoon fanned a 1,400-acre fire.
