Don Nichols the "Mountain Man" who kidnapped a world-class bi-athlete in 1984 in an attempt to find a wife for his son, has been denied parole during a hearing on Friday. He is currently serving an eighty five year prison sentence and will not be eligible for parole again until 2017. Most Montanans know at least a little about the case. Nichols and his son, Dan, who is currently being sought by authorities for failing to appear on unrelated drug charges, ambushed and kidnapped Kari Swenson while she was running in the mountains near Big Sky. Swenson was chained to a tree, when rescuers arrived, Dan Nichols shot her and Don shot and killed Alan Goldstein - a would be rescuer.
