As Chuck Berry sang, "ring, ring goes the bell". The man's obliviously not a Bob Dylan, but it's true, the ol' school bells will be ringing sooner than most of us realize. Another plus of living in rural north central Montana, is the fact that it's so much nicer dealing with local merchants and local people as opposed to standing in long lines in the big box stores being waited on by pimply faced adolescents who are of little or no help at all and seem to lack even the most basic communication skills. I've scoped out our area and come up with some, what I think, are great suggestions.

  • Drug Mart - Northern Village Shopping Center - Cut Bank

Drug Mart in the Northern Village Shopping Center in Cut Bank has become a "one stop location" for school supplies of all ages. I heard this week that they are selling Crayola Crayons (is there any other kind(!) for 69 cents a box! I'm glad to hear that those old familiar crayons are still around.

  • Grizzly Sports - Downtown Choteau

My friend, Mr.. Propaganda, Jim Anderson, at Grizzly Sports is Choteau has some student backpacks with a computer sleeve and if they're like everything else in Jim's store, they are of excellent quality.

  • Village Drug in Conrad

Jesse down at Village Drug in Conrad is behind the prescription counter much of the time but his Village Drug Store in the Pondera Village Shopping Center has everything the student needs, whether starting school or going on to college. Jesse not only has a lot of fans but he's selling them! Desk fans for $7.99. And Village Drug carries just the right supplies for the dorm room. In my college days, the right supplies were a bottle opener,a keg, and a big ashtray but that was then and this is now.

  • Northtown Drug - Uptown Shelby

Northtown Drug right here in Shelby has been in the business long enough to know what to order and when to order. They've got everything from notebooks to Elmers School Glue.

  • Devoe's In Valier

If you're in the Valier area, it's probably doesn't come as a surprise to you that Devoes Building Center has been stocking every kind of school supply imaginable for years.
