KSEN/K96 Athletes of the Week
Nominations for our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the were plenty this week with top notches performances on the Wrestling mats and the Basketball courts.
All said and done the Wrestlers got the nod, starting with Conrad Sr. Tegan Jones. Tegan has been described to us numerous times this season as one with an incomparable work ethic and leadership qualities in the practice room and in competition. His individual accomplishments speak for themselves. Tegan won the Championship at the Cut Bank Booster Invitational last weekend. He defeated all 4 of his opponents at 190-pounds in a decisive manner. Two of the wins came by pin, followed by a technical fall and then an 8-2 decision over the previously ranked #1 in the State, Straus Simms of Malta. After the win, Jones now owns the #1 ranking.
We also had a very qualified nomination this week for So. Jesse Gebhardt of Choteau. Jesse also knocked off the former #1 at 150-pounds to win the Cut Bank Booster Invitational. Also, a nomination for Cole Wood of Choteau. Cole came off the bench for the Bulldogs in the 4th Qtr. against Conrad Friday and drilled 2-3-pointers and made two free throws to seal the win for Choteau. Another nomination came in for Sunburst So. Nick Bucklin who had 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Refiners tough loss to Augusta.
Our Female Athlete of the Week might be overdue for this award. Browning Jr. Hayden Edwards has now won two major Tournaments, including the major CMR Holiday Invitational and the Cut Bank Booster Invitational last weekend. Asked about her top skills, Browning Girls Head Coach Eugene Matt says "she's good on her feet. Even if she gets taken down, you can't hold her to the mat, she gets up and just has that motor to keep on going." Hayden won all 5 of her matches by pin in Cut Bank and has not lost a match all season! The Browning Team finished 3rd in Cut Bank.
We also had a nomination for Choteau Fr. Peyton Dellwo who has become a real sparkplug for the undefeated Bulldogs. Peyton scored 13 and had 8 steals against Conrad and then 20-points, 7 rebounds and 10 steals against Cut Bank. She had scored 24 against Fort Benton earlier in the week.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Tegan Jones of Conrad, and Jr. Hayden Edwards of Browning. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each
