Our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week are getting the New Year off to a great start! Our Male Athlete of the week just keeps getting better on offense and defense.  CJI Hawks Jr. Forward, Ryland St. John is scoring points and tracking down rebounds, but his coaches say he is also vastly improved on defense compared to his sophomore year.  He is typically being matched up with the opponent's top scorer and several times has held them to minimal points. The 6'3" forward is scoring more all the time with 17 points and 24 points in two games last weekend.  In the Shelby game, his 15 points in the 2nd half spurred the Hawks to a runaway win.  He also pulled down 13 rebounds in those two games. Meanwhile, CJI is now 6-0 and face their toughest opponents to date this weekend when they matchup with Fort Benton Fri. and #1 ranked, defending state Champion Box Elder.  We also had a nomination for Sr. Wrestler Nathan Gunderson who won his pool at the Santa Showdown in Shelby at 150-lbs.

Our Female Athlete of the Week comes off the Wrestling mats where she recently won a Championship at the Walt and Trudy Currie JV tournament. Junior Choteau Wrestler Natalia Samson, wrestling at 155 pounds has been wrestling well all season, but according to Coach Chuck DeBoo, seems to be hitting a peak right now before the major tournaments and Divisional & State come around. Samson's most recent win was last Saturday at the Santa Showdown in Shelby.  She won her pool with a win by pin in the 2nd period over another top talent, Kara Jones of Conrad.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 -- Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Ryland St. John of the CJI Hawks and Jr. Natalia Samson of the Choteau Bulldogs.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored by McDonald's in Cut Bank.  McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each. KSEN encourages all parents, fans and coaches to nominate an Athlete of the Week when you feel they have performed at an above-average level.  E-mail: markdaniels@townsquaremedia.com
